Tell the Government to stand firm and pass the Employment Rights Bill in full

The Employment Rights Bill could deliver stronger rights for millions of workers. But Tory and Lib Dem Peers have voted to water it down.

Finnola is a supermarket worker. She has written to the Prime Minister asking him to stand firm against the Lords' attacks. Will you sign Finnola's open letter to show your support?

Dear Prime Minister,

My name is Finnola and I have worked in a supermarket for 11 years.

For millions of workers like me, the Employment Rights Bill will make a huge difference. I am glad your Government has committed to bring in stronger workers’ rights laws.

I wanted to tell you why this Bill is so important to me.

A few years ago, I was verbally abused by a customer when I asked if he needed assistance.

He started shouting racist remarks at me. And he threatened to go after my children.

I felt so scared, my legs were shaking.

The next day I wanted to stay at home. My mental health was in a terrible place. But as a single parent reliant on Statutory Sick Pay, I couldn’t afford to lose a day of pay.

This is why the Employment Rights Bill is so important. It will increase the responsibility for employers to protect workers like me from harassment. And it will mean all workers will have access to sick pay from day one.

It will also benefit millions of other working people, by curbing zero-hours contracts, ending fire-and-rehire and ensuring workers have fair rights to build a union like I have been lucky to have.

I know that Conservative and Liberal Democrat Peers in the House of Lords are trying to weaken some of the most important parts of this Bill.

But please, stand firm with working people and pass the Employment Rights Bill in full.

Yours sincerely,

Finnola
